The classic and busy view point of all the locations I’ve been in Iceland. But it’s a really photogenic the landscape perspective is the best in my option. Lómagnúpur is an impressive lump of rock right by the road between Vík and the glacier lagoon. You drive so close to it, scale hits hard, dark cliffs and green slopes, raw and incredible. If the weather is clear this quick stop is a must. 🗻

Kirkjubæjarklaustur (or “Klaustur”) is a small village in the south of Iceland on the hringvegur between Vík í Mýrdal and Höfn. You’ll find waterfalls like Systrafoss, the lake Systravatn, and natural spots such as Kirkjugólf (“Church Floor”). You can find accommodation, restaurants and gas, making it the perfect base to explore Lakagígar, Eldgjá and Fjaðrárgljúfur.

Fjaðrárgljúfur

The river looks painted by nature, green walls and blue water, raw and beautiful. Parking is paid, 1086 ISK, there are toilets, and it is absolutely worth the stop, worthy every step. 🏞️

Svartifoss means “Black Falls” and is a 20-meter waterfall known for the dark hexagonal basalt columns behind it. To reach it, you need to walk about 1.5 km from the visitor center on an easy trail. The mix of white water and black rock makes it one of the most photographed waterfalls in Iceland.

Fjaðrárgljúfur

This river canyon is pretty popular. There are many viewpoints along the way, and the 30-minute hike is steep but not too difficult.

A hidden gem. You need to go for a 15 minutes hike from the parking spot to get to this orange waterfall. The views are amazing.
