A monumental, 18th-century Baroque building that preserves four centuries of Mexican history. Originally a prestigious Jesuit school, it later became the National Preparatory School (Escuela Nacional Preparatoria) until 1978. It is considered the birthplace of the Mexican Muralism movement, as its walls were the first major canvases for the "big three" muralists. Dedicated to contemporary art, both international and Mexican, this museum was founded by artist Rufino Tamayo. It is located within Chapultepec Park and is known for its distinctive modern architecture

The Museo Nacional de Antropología (MNA) is the most visited museum in Mexico and one of the most comprehensive natural history museums in the world. It is dedicated to the archaeology and history of Mexico's pre-Hispanic heritage and the ethnography of the country's diverse indigenous groups today. The museum is housed in a famous, architecturally stunning building designed by Pedro Ramírez Vázquez, featuring the iconic "Paraguas" (umbrella) fountain in the central courtyard.

Mexico's premier cultural center, famous for its Art Nouveau and Art Deco architecture. It hosts important murals by Mexican masters and is the primary venue for opera, dance, and music.

A popular seafood restaurant in the upscale Polanco district. Campomar is one of our favourite eateries in Mexico City. The food is delicious and the portions are surprisingly large! We felt it was very reasonably priced for the quality, the setting, and the amount of food you get with each order!

This no-frills taqueria is the only 1 Michelin star taco stand in the world. They expertly make each tortilla to order alongside the mouthwatering meats. Our favourites were the Gaonera (filet) & the Bistec (steak) tacos, but you can't go wrong with anything on their very affordable menu. This will be the cheapest Michelin star meal you will ever have, but the line up can be crazy, so go early or be prepared to wait!

One of the most recognizable landmarks in the city, this victory column is located on the major boulevard, Paseo de la Reforma in downtown Mexico City. It was built in 1910 to commemorate the centennial of the beginning of Mexico's War of Independence.

The principal avenue in Mexico City, this boulevard includes attractions from Chapultupec Park all the way over to the Centro Historico. Along its length, you'll find everything from big bank towers, to street food, shopping centres, hotels and restaurants. On Sundays this street is closed down to vehicles and becomes a pedestrian walking/ biking/ roller blading street. Its a small part of the 55 kilometres of streets that are closed to traffic around Mexico City for the Muévete en Bici to encourage a more healthy lifestyle.

The site of impressive Mesoamerican pyramids dating back approximately 2000 years, the pyramids predate the Aztec Empire by many centuries. At the time Teotihuacan was a rich and prosperous city & the largest in the Americas.

Located in Xochimilco, the Trajineras are kind of like Mexican gondolas, except larger and full of colour. Taking a ride on one of the boats along the canals, you'll find floating vendors selling foods, drinks and snacks, as well as mariachi bands, and souvenirs.

The Centro Histórico is the bustling heart of Mexico City. It’s one of the coolest spots in Mexico City, no doubt. It’s not a place to work, but it’s super cool, super comfortable, full of personality, with great coffee and tasty food and at night it turns into a bar, and their espresso martini is spectacular!!

I think this place is beautiful!! It’s a very good size — not too small, not too big — and I really liked the coffee and matcha. I also love that they have little things for sale, like home décor and cute trinkets :)

Very cute, and it’s awesome that everything is red. They have delicious coffee and matcha!! It feels super artisanal and it’s really comfortable for hanging out and chatting with friends. Not the best for working, but it’s doable.

What I like most is that it’s a place perfectly suited for working from home: lots of outlets, individual tables, table service so you don’t have to keep getting up (like in a restaurant). Good music, though a bit loud for taking calls. I love it for breakfast, grabbing a coffee or chai, and settling in for a good while.

I recommend coming at night for the suadero tacos. Although they have steak and pastor tacos, the suadero is my favorite, paired with a glass of tepache, the pineapple fermented drink! If you don´t know what it´s suadero, I´m going to tell you that the Sort Flank Steak you have to cook it first in water and salt, and after that goes directly into a big pot with lard to be confit.

Don Juventino's cecina tacos (curated meat and sun-dry), where he greets you with a board covered in natural and enchilada-style cecina, green and red chorizo, as well as moronga. The highlight of this taco shop is the Campechano taco, featuring dried beef and green chorizo. The tacos come with two tortillas. Take your time to enjoy it while seated and explore the salsas, which range from green with guacamole and red salsa to pickled onions with manzano chili and pico de gallo. You can also order to go if you're in a hurry.

Inside Jamaica´s market, very well known because of the huge sale of flowers, they have this carnitas taco chop. Carnitas are made with pork confited with lard for a period of 4 hours until it gets tender and sweet. You can pick the part of the pig, it´s from nose to tail!

French inspired coffee shop. Great pastries, wide variety of drinks and they have wifi + lots of plugs so you can work there. Perfect spot for catching up with a friend with a nice cup of coffee and sweet treats.

This is a coffee house that's also a yoga/ pilates studio. It's the perfect place for home office since they have good wifi, cavelike booths and lots of amazing pastries. They have a wide variety of drinks like lavender latte, matcha, chai, etc... I've been multiple times and it's always as good as the last time I was there.

Great coffee and it's perfectly located if you want to visit the Centro Histórico, or also great for after a Sunday run. Place is big, you can see the huge industrial coffee grinder. Wide variety of pastries and one of the few places that has AC.

Super cool spot. It's pet friendly and they have a store within the café for cooking supplies and that kind of stuff. The salted latte is their specialty and they have great pastries. You can work from there.

Divided in two spaces: where you order and where you can sit & sip.Super cute, great matcha and the baristas are lovely. It's a super comfy space, perfect to catch-up with a friend or to read that book you've been carrying in your purse for months.

One of the best esquite stand in the area. The stand sets up right outside the supermarket in the corner of Av. Michoacán and Av. Condesa. I always get the elote or esquite but if you're feeling wild get the Dorilocos.

A classic taqueria that is now an icon in the area. Tacos Hola El Güero is for everyone who is craving delicious Mexican dishes in a taco. From frijol con queso, to quelites, and chicharron en salsa verde. The space is tiny it can get a bit crowded.

In a corner of la Condesa you'll find this taqueria with a line during peak hours. Their arrachera con queso taco is the best, however go only if you're very hungry. Portions are pretty big. Also, their frijoles are amazing.

With only chicken dishes and tacos, their pollo adobado taco is one of my favorite things. Cute little spot for a quick bite : )

Upstairs an old building you'll find a charming space offering a wide menu with unique tacos and Mexican dishes. It's my go-to place for a good taco de jamaica (hibiscus tacos) and a michelada.

In the food section inside Mercado de Jamaica, you'll find this hidden stand that serves pulpo al pastor tacos. One of a kind and tucked away in the market this spot is def worth visiting.

As simple as it looks there, caldo de gallina (hen broth) is the best for the soul. Open 24 hours its always an option to warm the heart anytime any day.

My go-to tacos stand for late nights and quick bites. Just a stand in the middle of the street their busted con queso taco is one of the best in town in my opinion.

Los Caramelos, one of the most iconic tacos stands in the neighbourhood. Their menu is short and simple but amazing. Their quesadilla de ate is a must try.

Jumping on the trend of maximizing the typical taquería style La Chula goes the extra mile. Usually busy but obviously delicious, their menu is mouthwatering but my taco of choice here is the cecina one paired with a big glass of agua de horchata.

Statred out as a street food stand in a busy corner of Roma Norte, they the opened a second location. The best birria in town hands down. Their quesabirrias are epic. Expect a line during peak hours.

My favorite chilaquiles in Mexico City are from any Casa de Toño. Also try their famous pozole : ) All place for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

La Faena Cantina is one of the most traditional spots in the Historic Center, decorated with matador suits, bullfighting posters, and oil paintings that make it feel like a museum. A place with history, classic bar snacks, cold beer, and that authentic vibe only a Mexico City cantina can have!

The new bar from the Tarabaña brewery in Colonia Roma, straight from the State of Mexico. It is a project I have been following, and their beers will no doubt win you over!

Another relatively new spot in Mexico City from the Canneria brewery straight from Ensenada. A small place that feels like home with a wide variety of beer straight from the tap.

Tenochtitlan was the capital of the ancient Mexica (Aztec) civilization before the Spanish conquest. The colonizers built the present-day city directly over it, and its remains are preserved today as a museum.

Chapultepec Park is the one of the largest parks in North America. The name "Chapultepec" means "Grasshopper" in the Nahuatl language. The park also has a castle.

Another bar in Mexico City from the Hércules brewery in Querétaro. One of my favorite spots to enjoy good beer, with the full Hércules lineup on tap or in cans, tasty snacks, and a relaxed atmosphere that always feels right.

A brewery with a style all its own in Roma, home to the production facility and its iconic hanging piano. Modern space, great vibe, and beer brewed on site, with options that change regularly.

We loved the street food available in this area; the entire two blocks are packed with food stands offering everything from tacos to tamales. It truly is a hidden gem.

We believe this is one of the best budget hotels in the Historic Centre. Additionally, you'll find an abundance of street food stands with countless options right outside your door, spanning the two adjacent blocks.

At the oldest market of Mexico City, you can find barbacoa tacos, soft or deep fried with cream, fresh cheese and chile pasilla salsa. I love to pair them with refresco rojo, a soda with a hint of currant.

This bar has amazing menu of Mexican antojitos. My favorite on the taco section are diezmillo (beef) tacos with cheese and avocado.

This stadium is an icon of sports in Mexico City. Whether you're here to watch a match of Club América or the Mexico National Team, it's a must-see—even if you're not typically a sports fan. (Note: It might be undergoing renovations for the FIFA World Cup 2026.)

Small Centro Histórico taquería on Simón Bolívar, famous for suadero en cazo and featured on Netflix’s Taco Chronicles. Visited by Anthony Bourdain. Start with suadero, then try lengua, tripa, cabeza, cachete or molleja. They seem to be known for their more exotic/offal meat cuts, and have several salsas you can access at the counter.

A casual Centro spot that balances quick tacos with giant, hot-off-the-plancha tortas. Al pastor is sweet and savory with a touch of pineapple, while suadero and tripa bring the deeper flavor. The Cubana torta is a small show, layered and messy in the best way. Soft tortillas arrive warm. Simple, generous, and very local.

The Taco Tasting Room is a gourmet taco shop in the Historic Center. It is a high-concept bar, intentionally avoiding the traditional street style to showcase an elevated approach to taco culinary art. A 13-course taco omakase with the experience more focused on gourmet tacos and signature cuisine.

An excellent family-friendly spot located in the Historic Center. It’s known for great-tasting Mexican food and beer with a rustic, family style vibe. Suadero, cochinita, and flank steak, all so good. Staff is friendly.

This humble taco shop is mentioned in the MICHELIN guide. A city center favorite that treats corn and meat with care. Short menus, precise technique, tortillas made with attention. People come for that clean, elemental bite that made it famous. Lines happen, but the food is worth the wait.

One of the MUST cultural things to do in Mexico City

This is known as the exotic market in Mexico City. You can get from scorpions all the way to lion meat.

Modern sirloin house where meat takes the lead. The Caramelo is a cheese crust with meat that cracks then melts. They even do a double sirloin smash burger with a touch of trompo. Pork belly is also a delicacy here.

Northern style tacos in the center. Asada, chuleta, and costilla kiss the coals and hit the table with that clean smoke. Flour or corn tortillas, your choice, both warm and soft. Busy because people return.

An authentic spot serving Northern Mexican home cooking since 1946. Chilorio is rich and fragrant, machaca comes tender and salty, and tacos de cabrito feel like a Sunday visit up north. Burritos and gorditas arrive hot from the comal with soft tortillas and plenty of filling. It is warm, familiar, and steady every day.

More than seventy years of doing four tacos and doing them right. Gaonera is the icon, thin fillet seared fast and laid gently on a warm tortilla. Bistec, costilla, and chuleta complete a tight set with no extras needed. Few options but worth the wait in this Michelin star rated restaurant.

Smoke, sear, and slow cooking meet in San Rafael. Cochinita pibil is soft and fragrant, pork belly comes glazed and rich, and tatemado notes add depth. You can build tacos from cuts or go straight into stews like entomatada. The room is cozy, lights warm, music low.

Lively counter energy with al pastor that turns heads and a lineup of classics. Sirloin and suadero come juicy with a light char, and there is always a good stew if you want a spoon and tortilla moment. Avocado shows up often for that creamy finish. It stays busy because the flavor is big and consistent. Night bites are especially fun.

A humble San Rafael stop for everyday Mexican food. Simple tortillas, generous meat, and salsas that taste like home. Breakfast and early lunch are the sweet spot when the comal is busy and fresh. It is the type of place neighbors recommend.

You don´t have to go to Yucatan to have a bite of Mayan cuisine, in this place you can find cochinita pibil tacos. If it´s your first time reading that name, let me tell you that these tacos are marinated with a paste made with a citric called lima, annato seeds, bay leaf, and black pepper. The pork is cooked, covered with a banana leaf, and shredded. You have five options of salsa with habanero chilli and pickled onions to give an extra acidity.

If you like chicharron, you are in the best place to grab a taco of pork grinds. The only thing I have to clarify is that this chicharron is prepared in the northern way: deep-fried bites of skin and pork meat, which in Spain are called torreznos. It´s pretty sure that if you go there after 5 pm you´ll wait in line for 10 minutes to get your table, but it's worth it!

We cannot recommend this restaurant enough! This spot is located in a hotel building that offers arguably the best view you can get in all of Mexico City.

A market dating back to 1955 selling gourmet and exotic foods. Fried insects, scorpion liqueur and lion meat are some of the food that you can buy here. Not your typical Mexican spot but worth a visit.
