Mexico City: A Living Labyrinth

The Centro Histórico is the bustling heart of Mexico City. From local markets and street vendors, to historic buildings, pedestrian walking streets, and affordable shopping, the Centro Historico should be a stop on everyone's trip to Mexico City. When visiting, be vigilant and watch out for pick pockets.

The largest traditional retail market in Mexico City, with everything from fresh produce and clothing to mouthwatering street food. We enjoyed a guided tour that also included the Sonora Witchcraft Market as well as tons of tasty food stops along the way.

Located in the beautiful Roma Norte neighbourhood, Panadería Rosetta Puebla is a super popular bakery serving delicious baked goods. We really enjoyed sitting on their lovely terrace and having some pastries and a croissant ice cream cone.

One of the most recognizable landmarks in the city, this victory column is located on the major boulevard, Paseo de la Reforma in downtown Mexico City. It was built in 1910 to commemorate the centennial of the beginning of Mexico's War of Independence.

One of the oldest and largest cathedrals in all of Latin America, this impressive building is free to enter and is worth a look inside to check it out!

Located in Xochimilco, the Trajineras are kind of like Mexican gondolas, except larger and full of colour. Taking a ride on one of the boats along the canals, you'll find floating vendors selling foods, drinks and snacks, as well as mariachi bands, and souvenirs.

An upscale Mexican restaurant overlooking the iconic Plaza de la Constitución & the spires of the Mexico City Metropolitan Cathedral. Ensure to make a reservation and go early to get the best chance of getting a front row seat on their terrace.

Bustling & historic pedestrian walking street in Mexico City's centro historico. It's lined with beautiful old buildings, shops, street vendors and the Iturbide Palace. Continuing all the way to the end will take you into the city's main square called Constitution Plaza or El Zócalo.

One of our favourite restaurants in Mexico City. La Capital serves contemporary Mexican cuisine with Instagram worthy presentation that matches its incredible flavours. For the quality, we definitely felt it was worth the price!

The principal avenue in Mexico City, this boulevard includes attractions from Chapultupec Park all the way over to the Centro Historico. Along its length, you'll find everything from big bank towers, to street food, shopping centres, hotels and restaurants. On Sundays this street is closed down to vehicles and becomes a pedestrian walking/ biking/ roller blading street. Its a small part of the 55 kilometres of streets that are closed to traffic around Mexico City for the Muévete en Bici to encourage a more healthy lifestyle.

A popular seafood restaurant in the upscale Polanco district. Campomar is one of our favourite eateries in Mexico City. The food is delicious and the portions are surprisingly large! We felt it was very reasonably priced for the quality, the setting, and the amount of food you get with each order!

This no-frills taqueria is the only 1 Michelin star taco stand in the world. They expertly make each tortilla to order alongside the mouthwatering meats. Our favourites were the Gaonera (filet) & the Bistec (steak) tacos, but you can't go wrong with anything on their very affordable menu. This will be the cheapest Michelin star meal you will ever have, but the line up can be crazy, so go early or be prepared to wait!

Mexico City's main square surrounded by gorgeous architecture. Here you can find the iconic Mexico City Metropolitan Cathedral and the National Palace. If you're visiting around Christmas time, this square transforms into a winter wonderland. All of the buildings are adorned with extravagant lights and decorations, plus they even have artificial snow!
